Box

I appreciate instructiveness most of all features of Asustek boxes. All functions of the board and all supported features are described in graphic manner.

Box contents

· The motherboard itself;
· CD with software and drivers;
· Complete user manual in English + brief user manual (in 12 languages);
· 2 ATA-100 cables, an ATA-33 cable, an FDD cable;
· 2 Serial ATA cables;
· A bracket with 2 extra USB2.0 ports and a GAME- port;
· A bracket with 2 extra IEEE1394 ports (and a set of cables to connect them);
· A sticker with jumpers description + a sticker with Asustek logo;
· A plastic bag with extra jumpers;
· A bracket with SP-DIF input and output;
· A gag for back panel.

As I had expected, box contents proved to be very rich.

I don't have any complaints on user manual, there is even BIOS setup description section (Asus P4B533-E didn't have one). Unfortunately there is no a manual (at least a brief one) on RAID arrays setup and management. The brief manual on system configuring remains the same for quite a long time.

The CD contains a large set of Asus brand utilities except standard drivers. These are ASUS Live Update, HotKey, MyLogo2, PCProbe, and Screensaver. Besides, there is Adobe Acrobat Reader, 3Deep, DirectX 8.1 and Winbond voice editor. There is no any extra software in the package (although some observers received a set of programs from InterVideo, which includes WinDVD, WinRip, WinCoder and WinProducer). As I have found out, boards with this software will be named "Gold" and will cost merely $5 more expensive. The entire set of programs from InterVideo is recorded on a separate DVD and is placed loke this.

We received a standard set of accessories for evaluation, the only new thing are Serial-ATA cables.

However their practical value is not high now. Serial-ATA HDDs have not appeared on sale yet. That is why the only way to apply this technology is to use a special connector (they have not been seen on sale as well).
Actually, the only one who have benefited of Serial-ATA application was Abit company. IT7-MAX2 comes with both cables and IDE-SerialATA connectors. As the result, a user receives an opportunity to change flat IDE cables for slimmer ones.
